It appears as white or slightly yellow powder or granules, odorless and tasteless. It is readily soluble in water to form a transparent and viscous colloid, but insoluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and ether. With multiple functions such as thickening, stabilizing, emulsifying, bonding and water retention, and featuring salt resistance, acid and alkali resistance, and good biocompatibility, it is widely used in various fields including food processing, daily chemical production, oil extraction, papermaking and water treatment.

CMC can significantly increase the viscosity of aqueous solutions at extremely low concentrations. The formed colloid has excellent suspension properties, effectively preventing the sedimentation of solid particles and the stratification of liquids in the system, and maintaining the uniform and stable state of the product.
